Fixed-rate borrowing

-You can opt for a fixed-rate borrowing to fix the charges of a borrowing for a relatively long period.
-If you choose an Interest Rate Swap (IRS), you have the opportunity to dissociate the borrowing from interest charges and obtain financing with a more versatile construction.

Rate swap

-This over-the-counter contract consists of exchanging, on fixed dates, a variable-interest flow for a fixed-interest flow.
-Being a rate-swap payer means paying the fixed rate and receiving the floating rate, i.e. borrowing at a fixed rate and lending at a variable rate.

Terms and conditions

-A nominal amount: the amount of capital used as a basis for calculating interest. That amount is never swapped.
-The contract starting date is not necessarily the negotiation date.
-The contract duration varies from one quarter to one year.
-The value of the fixed rate, the basis for calculation, and the payment schedule.
-The variable-rate reference and the payment schedule.

Moving from a variable rate to a fixed rate

For a variable-rate term borrowing:
-To limit the cost of your loan from a perspective of rising rates, you can freeze the rate of your borrowing by carrying out an interest-rate swap.
- o Through that swap, you will pay a fixed rate, agreed when the contract is signed, for a specific period (3, 4, 5, or 7 years), and you will receive a variable rate every 3 or 6 months during that period.
